The 2012 IJPN Awards ceremony

For a fantastic eighth successive year, International Journal of Palliative Nursing partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support to host the IJPN Awards, which celebrate achievement and excellence in the work of nurses and their teams in palliative care.

With additional support from Napp Pharmaceuticals and CME Medical, the event took place at the luxurious Honourable Artillery Company venue The HAC in the centre of London. After a champagne reception and an opportunity for those in attendance to meet and chat over dinner, proceedings began in earnest with an inspiring speech from the evening’s guest speaker, Professor Sheila Payne, President of the European Association for Palliative Care.

The ceremony itself was hosted with warmth and aplomb by Juliet Bouverie, Director of Services for Macmillan Cancer Support. The judging panel had been astonished by the standard of the entries this year, as attested to on the night by IJPN’s Consultant Editor, Bob Becker, and the nominees whose amazing work was being honoured included people from far and wide, reflecting the continuing growth of palliative care across the world.

The winners were invited to say a few words as they collected their prizes, and as well as thanking colleagues and remembering their patients, many of the winners highlighted the need for continuing innovation and education to drive up standards and improve care. Details of all the winners are presented here, and photographs of the event and prizewinners are available for download.

The evening was a great success in every respect, and we look forward to more of the same in 2013!
